Froberg Aerospace develops precision mechanical mechanisms for spacecraft — deployment systems, release actuators, separation mechanisms, and precision pointing drives that enable satellites to deploy solar arrays, antennas, and booms from their compact launch configuration. The company targets the European space supply chain with mechanisms that meet ESA qualification standards.

Spacecraft mechanisms are among the highest-reliability requirements in satellite engineering: a deployment failure is catastrophic and irreversible. Froberg Aerospace’s deployment systems use shape-memory alloy (SMA) or paraffin actuators as reliable, shock-free alternatives to explosive pyrotechnic devices for hold-down and release functions. These ‘green’ mechanisms eliminate the logistics, regulatory, and safety complexities of pyrotechnics while providing equivalent reliability.

The company also develops rotary drives for antenna pointing mechanisms (reflector positioners that maintain pointing accuracy over satellite lifetime) and solar array drives (continuously rotating the solar panels to track the sun). These precision mechanisms must operate reliably for 15+ years in the thermal cycling, vacuum, and radiation environment of geostationary orbit.
