About

Eris is Gilmour Space Technologies’ orbital launch vehicle, designed to carry approximately 305 kg to sun-synchronous orbit at 500 km altitude. The three-stage vehicle uses LOX/kerosene on its first stage and Gilmour’s proprietary hybrid propellant (liquid oxidizer with a solid fuel grain) on its second and third stages, a combination that provides the simplicity of solid motors with the throttleability of liquid-fueled engines.

Gilmour Space is developing Eris for launch from Bowen Orbital Spaceport in Queensland, Australia — Australia’s first privately developed orbital spaceport. The company holds launch licenses from the Australian Space Agency and has conducted extensive static fire testing of its first stage engines at its Helensvale, Queensland test facility.

Gilmour Space completed a major fundraising round in 2022, raising AUD $61 million (USD ~$40 million) and attracting investment from Boeing HorizonX. The company targets the growing market for dedicated small satellite launches, competing with global providers by offering Australian launch sovereignty and competitive pricing for SSO-optimized missions in the growing Asia-Pacific space market.
