Ground Communications Capabilities
Mobile and fixed optical ground communications terminals provide fast and secure data transfer between satellites and flying platforms to and from the ground.
About
Mynaric has extensive experience in the design and development of optical ground communications terminal prototypes. These terminals provide secure data transmission and are highly resistant to jamming, spoofing, and electro-magnetic interference (EMI) compared to RF systems. They utilize a license-free spectrum, meaning no ITU or FCC frequency coordination is required for the optical channels. Optical communications ground terminals offer unprecedented high-speed and high-throughput connectivity between satellites and the ground, serving as access points to terrestrial network infrastructure. They are typically used for bidirectional data links to and from satellites operating as interlinked constellations or for downstreaming data from Earth observation satellites. The widest link availability is guaranteed by ground terminal diversity schemes that utilize multiple optical ground stations at different locations, statistically maximizing aggregate availability using historical weather data. Depending on locations and the number of ground terminals, up to 100% availability can be achieved.
