About

HyperSat’s High-Throughput Data Downlink Architecture addresses one of the fundamental engineering challenges of commercial hyperspectral Earth observation: the extremely high data volumes generated when capturing imagery across 500 spectral bands at meter-class resolution require substantially greater downlink capacity than conventional EO satellites. Each HyperSat satellite collects spectral data across 500 narrow bands per pixel, creating Metadata Hypercubes that must be efficiently transmitted to ground processing infrastructure to support the near-real-time intelligence delivery timelines required by government and commercial customers.

The satellite architecture incorporates high-throughput communications payloads alongside the primary imaging spectrometer, ensuring timely delivery of processed spectral intelligence to government and commercial ground networks. The system design — developed in partnership with QinetiQ, Redwire, and Millennium Engineering and Integration — optimizes the communications chain to serve the throughput demands of hyperspectral data at HyperSat’s planned constellation cadence.

HyperSat’s end-to-end service model integrates satellite tasking, data collection, onboard or ground processing, and intelligence delivery as a managed service. The communications architecture is integral to this value chain, enabling timely delivery of Metadata Hypercubes to National Reconnaissance Office customers and commercial clients in agriculture, energy, and mining sectors who require timely spectral data for operational decision-making.

NRO customers, in particular, place significant value on rapid data delivery cycles for time-sensitive intelligence applications. The high-throughput communications system is engineered to serve these requirements while maintaining compatibility with the classified ground infrastructure ecosystems of U.S. intelligence community customers.
