About

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) developed and manufactures the AMOS series of geostationary communications satellites for Spacecom (Space Communication Ltd.), Israel’s commercial satellite operator. The AMOS constellation provides broadband internet, direct-to-home (DTH) television, and government communication services across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and North America.

AMOS satellites are three-axis stabilized GEO spacecraft built on IAI’s commercial satellite bus, featuring a combination of Ku-band and Ka-band transponders. The AMOS-6 satellite (2016) was lost in the SpaceX Falcon 9 pad explosion during pre-launch testing; AMOS-17 (2019) uses a Boeing 702MP platform and covers Africa. IAI is also developing AMOS-4 replacement satellites and future broadband platforms.

IAI provides the satellite design, manufacturing, and system integration as prime contractor for Spacecom’s fleet. The company has broader satellite manufacturing capabilities including Earth observation satellites (Ofek reconnaissance series), AMOS commercial GEO satellites, and OPTSAT dual-use imaging satellites.
