About
OPTSAT-3000 is a high-resolution Earth observation satellite developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in partnership with OHB Italia, originally built for the Italian Ministry of Defence and launched in 2017. The satellite operates in sun-synchronous orbit and provides sub-meter resolution panchromatic and multispectral imagery for defense, intelligence, mapping, and environmental monitoring applications.
The satellite uses IAI’s Star-3000 electro-optical imaging system, which provides approximately 0.5 m panchromatic resolution and 2 m multispectral resolution from approximately 600 km altitude. OPTSAT-3000 is based on IAI’s OPSAT family, which also includes the Israeli Ofek reconnaissance satellite series and the dual-use VENµS scientific satellite developed with CNES.
IAI offers the OPTSAT-3000 platform to government and institutional customers requiring independent high-resolution Earth observation capability. The system includes a complete ground segment for image acquisition, processing, and exploitation.
