About

Mira is Impulse Space’s commercial orbital transfer vehicle (OTV), providing last-mile delivery of satellites from their rideshare drop-off orbit to their operational orbit. Founded by Tom Mueller (SpaceX propulsion co-founder), Impulse Space develops high-performance chemical propulsion systems for in-space transportation.

Mira uses ethane/LOX propellants and can perform significant orbit changes — from the SSO delivery orbit used by SpaceX Transporter to a wide range of customer-specified operational orbits. The vehicle can carry multiple satellites to different destinations in a single mission, acting as an in-space bus that delivers payloads sequentially.

Mira’s first mission (Mira-1) flew in January 2024, successfully demonstrating the OTV concept and delivering payloads for multiple customers. The vehicle targets satellites in the 100 kg class, providing delta-v capabilities that allow orbit changes of several km/s — far exceeding what onboard satellite propulsion can typically provide. Impulse Space is developing a larger Helios vehicle for GEO-class missions.
