About
The Lúnasa Robotic Testbed provides a comprehensive ground-based simulation environment for the rigorous testing and validation of vision-based Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) systems, specifically for satellite servicing applications. This advanced testbed allows for the analysis of Rendezvous, Proximity Operations (RPO) kits, enabling an understanding of their responses to varying conditions such as lighting changes and different orientations of chaser and target satellites. This vital information ensures reliable RPO. The system features two 6-Degrees of Freedom (DoF) modular robotic arms, complemented by a linear traverser for dynamic positioning. It is housed within a blackout room with adaptable lighting, allowing for the simulation of a wide range of orbital conditions. Users can simulate various approach angles and attitudes, shadowed docking scenarios, and unexpected movements, all tailored to specific mission needs. The testbed supports real-time data collection and repeatable experiments, facilitating the validation of satellite operations before hardware launch. By simulating realistic lighting, motion, and sensing conditions, the testbed helps identify potential failures early, thereby reducing mission risk and enhancing overall system reliability.
