About

ION-X specializes in high-performance components for ion electric propulsion systems — the electron bombardment and Hall effect thrusters used for spacecraft station-keeping and orbit transfer. The company produces precision-machined thruster grids, discharge chambers, neutralizer hollow cathodes, and propellant flow control hardware for electric propulsion system OEMs and research programs.

Gridded ion thruster grids are precision components that must withstand years of ion bombardment erosion while maintaining dimensional tolerances critical for beam extraction and focusing. ION-X manufactures these grids in carbon-carbon composite, pyrolytic graphite, and molybdenum — materials chosen for their erosion resistance under 1,000–3,000 eV ion bombardment. Hollow cathode neutralizers emit electrons to neutralize the exhaust beam and prevent spacecraft charging.

Beyond hardware, ION-X provides electric propulsion test equipment: vacuum-compatible thrust stands, ion beam probe arrays, and plume diagnostic instruments for characterizing thruster performance in vacuum facilities. These diagnostic tools are used by propulsion developers at NASA, ESA, universities, and NewSpace companies to measure thrust, specific impulse, and beam divergence during development testing.
