Kestrel u5

The Kestrel u5 is Kymeta’s compact satellite communications terminal, representing a redesign of its flat-panel metamaterial antenna technology into a smaller, lighter form factor. It is built for multi-orbit satellite compatibility, allowing it to connect across LEO and GEO satellite networks. The terminal features a rugged exterior and a patent-pending water-shedding design, making it suitable for harsh operating conditions. It is designed for integration flexibility across a wide range of platforms, including unmanned vehicles and vessels (UXVs), national security applications, autonomous land and sea systems, and commercial rail. Compared to Kymeta’s u8 product line, the Kestrel u5 offers 70% less volume and 68% less weight while still providing full satellite connectivity, requiring only 100 W of nominal power. It operates as part of Kymeta’s Intelligent Communications Platform, which leverages edge processing, software-defined capabilities, and hybrid multi-network functionality to maintain continuous, resilient connectivity. Applications highlighted include global multi-orbit relay connectivity in remote and challenging environments, maritime communication with tracking in rough conditions, and high-speed low-latency broadband for isolated workforce and autonomous vehicle operations, as well as real-time data and communication for rail logistics.
