Zephyr is a small orbital launch vehicle developed by Latitude (formerly known as Venture Orbital Systems), a French launch startup founded in 2021. The two-stage vehicle targets sun-synchronous orbit with a payload capacity of approximately 100 kg, designed for dedicated small satellite launches from the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou, French Guiana.
Zephyr uses LOX/methane propellants on both stages. The first stage uses a cluster of Navier engines (Latitude’s in-house LOX/methane engine developed using additive manufacturing) and is designed for eventual reusability. The vehicle is positioned as a European alternative to emerging small launch providers globally, benefiting from the established infrastructure and regulatory framework at Kourou.
Latitude has attracted funding from the French government’s Plan France 2030 initiative and private investors. The company is targeting its first orbital demonstration flight and has established propulsion test facilities at the DGA Missile Systems site in Bourges, France.
