About

Mission Prarambh, launched on November 18, 2022, was a historic event as India’s first private rocket launch. The Vikram-S, a single-stage solid rocket, successfully completed its maiden suborbital test flight from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. During its 301.4-second flight, the rocket reached a peak altitude of 88.8 km and achieved a maximum velocity of Mach 5.07. Following a nominal ascent phase, the vehicle splashed down 125 km downrange in the Bay of Bengal. The mission carried three customer payloads: BAZOOMQ Armenia, Space Kidz India, and N-Space Tech India. This successful demonstration validated key technologies for the Vikram-series of orbital launchers, including solid propulsion systems, carbon composite structures, avionics, and telemetry, paving the way for Skyroot’s upcoming orbital launch vehicle, Vikram-I, scheduled for 2025. The mission specifically validated Skyroot’s in-house developed solid rocket motor and spin stabilizers, next-generation avionics with telemetry RF link achieving data rates up to 3 Mbps, and a first-of-its-kind carbon composite airframe that maintained structural integrity at velocities exceeding Mach 5.
