About

OHB Cosmos is a subsidiary of OHB SE (Germany’s third-largest space company) specializing in flexible GEO satellite solutions based on the OHB SmallGEO platform developed under ESA’s ARTES program. The SmallGEO platform is a small-to-medium geostationary satellite bus optimized for all-electric propulsion, targeting payloads in the 300–400 kg class and GEO-positioned communications and hosted payload missions.

The Hispasat 36W-1 satellite (launched 2017) was the first operational SmallGEO-platform satellite, validating all-electric orbit raising and providing broadband connectivity for the Iberian market. OHB Cosmos offers the SmallGEO bus to commercial operators seeking a European GEO platform with all-electric propulsion, lower launch mass, and the flexibility to carry a variety of Ku-band, Ka-band, or optical payload configurations.

OHB Cosmos is also involved in the European Data Relay System (EDRS), managing the EDRS-A hosted payload on an Intelsat satellite and the EDRS-C dedicated satellite — providing high-data-rate laser optical relay links between low-orbit satellites (Sentinel Earth observation satellites) and ground stations.
