The RPS Orbital Transfer Vehicle (OTV) is a cryogenic propulsion system engineered to perform rapid and efficient orbit transfers. With a full thrust of 3,307 lbf and a vacuum Isp of 374 seconds, it delivers a high total impulse, enabling a variety of rapid space maneuvers. This OTV is specifically designed to facilitate transfers from Low Earth Orbit (LEO, approximately 300 km) to other destinations within LEO, as well as to Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) or Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (GEO). Historically, access to higher orbits like MEO and GEO has been constrained by high costs and lengthy wait times. These costs often stem from missions being executed by launch vehicle second stages not optimized for higher orbits, and the need for more propellant and tighter ascent trajectory margins. Long wait times are due to the necessity of allocating special MEO/GEO mission slots within existing LEO mission manifests. The RPS OTV addresses these challenges by being launched as a payload to LEO on existing launch vehicles, adhering to their typical LEO mission requirements, trajectory profiles, and manifest queues. Once in LEO, the OTV executes its mission to MEO or GEO, thereby seamlessly extending the mission range and reach of current Earth-to-LEO launch vehicles.
