About
The iSSI Flight Qualification Experiment (FQE) is Skycorp’s on-orbit demonstrator of the intelligent Space Systems Interface (iSSI), the robotic connector that forms the core of the Orbital Logistics Vehicle architecture. Funded by the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), the ISS National Lab, and NASA’s Science Mission Directorate (SMD), the FQE was delivered for launch to the International Space Station aboard the NG-17 Cygnus resupply mission (launched February 19, 2022). The unit was hosted on the Space Station for approximately six months, during which Skycorp’s iSSI technology was proven and tested to Technology Readiness Level 7 (TRL-7). The iSSI functions similarly to a USB or PCI interface for satellites, providing physical, electrical power, and data connectivity for modular payloads on space vehicles. The FQE validated several key technologies including a multi-core RISC-V in-space server architecture that operated as the world’s first web server aboard the ISS, later informing Skycorp’s contracted build of Lonestar Data Holdings’ proof-of-concept lunar data center payload.
