About
Space BD Inc. is the primary commercial operator of the ISS Japanese Experiment Module (Kibo) for JAXA, offering third-party access to the J-SSOD (JEM Small Satellite Orbital Deployer) system for CubeSat deployment. The J-SSOD deploys CubeSats from the ISS airlock at approximately 400 km altitude in an inclination of 51.6 degrees — the ISS orbital plane.
The service covers the complete launch campaign: manifesting the CubeSat on an ISS cargo resupply mission (HTV, Cygnus, or Dragon), integration into the J-SSOD carrier, delivery to the ISS, crew operations for deployment, and post-deployment TT&C support. Satellite sizes from 1U to 6U are supported, making it accessible to universities, research institutions, and commercial smallsat operators.
Space BD has deployed dozens of CubeSats through the Kibo platform since 2019, establishing itself as the go-to service provider for ISS-deployed nanosatellites in the Asia-Pacific region. The company also offers space utilization services for biological and materials science experiments within the Kibo module.
