Space Union is developing an active space debris removal system that uses laser directed energy to decelerate spent satellites and debris objects in orbit, enabling controlled deorbiting. The system identifies and analyzes design drivers for Zero Debris Platform evolution and performs trade-off studies to define technological solutions. By directing laser energy onto the target debris, the system reduces kinetic energy of the object, causing gradual orbital decay leading to atmospheric reentry. This approach addresses one of the most pressing challenges in modern space operations: the growing population of non-functional satellites and debris fragments in low Earth orbit.
