RTU — Remote Terminal Unit
Terma’s Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) is a modular spacecraft subsystem that connects the On-Board Computer to platform electronics including thrusters, heaters, sensors, pyrotechnic devices, and power switches. The RTU collects housekeeping telemetry (temperatures, voltages, currents), issues commands, controls valves, manages power distribution, and monitors system health in real time. The modular plug-in architecture enables configuration […]

About
Terma’s Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) is a modular spacecraft subsystem that connects the On-Board Computer to platform electronics including thrusters, heaters, sensors, pyrotechnic devices, and power switches. The RTU collects housekeeping telemetry (temperatures, voltages, currents), issues commands, controls valves, manages power distribution, and monitors system health in real time. The modular plug-in architecture enables configuration for different platform sizes and interface types without redesigning the unit. The RTU operates across any spacecraft main bus voltage from 20 V to 100 V, with power consumption of approximately 15 W. MIL-STD-1553 is the primary interface. Terma has delivered over 40 RTU flight models with recent missions including H2Sat (2023, in-orbit, 50 V main bus), Electra, LUXEOSys/NAOS, HERA, and CO2M.
