About
The Terma T1 star tracker is a high-heritage, radiation-hardened star tracker qualified for the demanding environment of GEO missions including electrical orbit raising through the Van Allen belts. It is based on the Faintstar-2 1024×1024 CMOS APS (Active Pixel Sensor), developed under ESA contract as a successor to the LCMS sensor. The T1 achieves approximately 3.6 arcsec (1σ) accuracy in pitch and yaw with significantly better roll performance, and delivers attitude at up to 10 Hz via SpaceWire — enabling direct connection of the optical head to the spacecraft OBC without a separate electronics unit for smaller platforms. The full system including electronic unit weighs 1.53 kg and draws 3.25 W average from a 20–36 V supply. Class 1 and 2 components enable qualification for 15-year GEO lifetime with tolerance to worst-case South Atlantic Anomaly proton flux. The T1 is available with 30° or 45° baffle options. Design heritage connects to the GEO-proven HE-5AS platform and has been selected for missions requiring high-radiation-environment attitude determination reliability.
