About
Thorium Space commissioned Sivers Semiconductors (Sweden) to design and manufacture a family of four Ka-band beam-forming integrated circuits for both terrestrial satellite terminals and space segment applications. Each IC incorporates dual parallel signal distribution networks, enabling simultaneous generation of two independent electromagnetic beams with eight antenna ports each — providing significant flexibility for multi-satellite access and interference mitigation.
The terrestrial pair — Wildside2731 (TX, 27.5–31 GHz) and Mystic1721 (RX, 17.7–21.2 GHz) — has reached TRL V. These ICs target ground-based flat-panel satellite communication terminals. The space-grade pair — Farside1721 (TX, 17.7–21.2 GHz) and Meadow2731 (RX, 27.5–31 GHz) — are at TRL IV and are designed for hybrid beam-forming in satellite payloads. All four ICs are claimed to represent the highest integration density currently available in this frequency range.
Each device integrates amplifiers, phase shifters, and frequency conversion circuits. Fabrication is performed at GlobalFoundries via Sivers Semiconductors, with Thorium Space holding exclusive production rights through 2034. Full prototype characterization is expected in Q2/Q3 2026, with production readiness targeted for Q3 2027.
