Description
The Stingray is EOI Space's proprietary Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) imaging satellite, designed to operate at an altitude of approximately 250 km — roughly half that of conventional Earth observation satellites. Flying this low enables ultra-high-resolution imagery of 15 cm per pixel using multispectral (MS) and near-infrared (NIR) imagers, while virtually eliminating collision risk with space debris found at higher altitudes.
Each Stingray is built on a patented, standardized VLEO-specific satellite bus featuring an aerodynamic structure to minimize atmospheric drag, extended solar arrays for power generation, high-speed radios for rapid downlink, and drag-resistant materials to withstand the denser atmospheric environment of VLEO. Station-keeping at this ultra-low altitude is maintained by EOI's proprietary HET-X electric propulsion system, tested in cooperation with the US Air Force, which is designed to sustain the satellite's orbit for at least five years.
Stingray satellites include onboard edge computing hardware that processes imagery in space before downlink, reducing latency and enabling automated, AI-generated analytics to be delivered to customers faster. The satellites are highly maneuverable, capable of imaging at long distances and high off-nadir angles, and are designed to support a fully operational constellation of up to 60 units — enabling re-imaging of any global location as frequently as every 10 minutes and imaging capacity of over 10,000 areas of interest per day.
Imagery and tasking are delivered through several service models: Priority Imagery for assured, time-critical national security tasking; Tasking, which leases dedicated capacity over specific geographic areas to governments and partners; OnDemand Imagery via cloud streaming subscriptions and APIs; Library Imagery for historical comparison; and AI-powered Monitoring services developed with analytics partners.
