Greenerwave

Greenerwave was founded in 2015 as a spin-off from the Langevin Institute (CNRS/ESPCI-PSL) by Geoffroy Lerosey, a CNRS researcher, and Mathias Fink, a professor at ESPCI Paris. The company emerged from pioneering academic research in wave physics and electromagnetic control, translating breakthrough science into commercial products for wireless communications and satellite connectivity.

The company's core innovation is its proprietary Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) technology combined with physics-inspired algorithms that enable precise, real-time control of electromagnetic wave propagation. Unlike conventional electronically steerable antennas that rely heavily on active semiconductor components, Greenerwave's approach shifts complexity from hardware to software, resulting in antennas with dramatically fewer semiconductors — approximately 5× less than competing solutions — leading to lower cost, higher reliability, and reduced energy consumption.

Greenerwave's primary commercial focus is on satellite communications (SATCOM) user terminals designed to maintain high-speed connectivity with both geostationary (GEO) and low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, including while on the move. The terminals support multi-orbit operations and can adapt their configuration in real time to meet diverse connectivity needs across defense, energy, government, mobility, and land sectors.

The company has established strategic partnerships with major industry players including Safran, Intelsat, and the French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA), and has received backing from France 2030, Bpifrance, BNP Paribas, and the European Innovation Council (EIC). In 2024, Greenerwave raised €15 million in funding to accelerate commercialization. The company has offices in Paris, Toulouse, and Sophia Antipolis, with Toulouse serving as a growing hub for satellite communications development.

Beyond SATCOM, Greenerwave applies its RIS expertise to upstream R&D in terrestrial telecommunications (5G/6G) and radar/sensing applications, offering prototype RIS panels for FR1, FR2, and FR3 frequency bands to research laboratories worldwide.
