Hanwha Systems is commercializing Electronically Steerable Antenna (ESA) technology via its investment in Hanwha Phasor, targeting the global LEO satellite connectivity market. The ESA uses a flat-type active phased array design — with no mechanical beam-steering components — enabling lightweight, low-profile installation across a wide range of mobility platforms.
At the core of the design is a proprietary ASIC chip capable of processing high-frequency signals from four antennas simultaneously with minimal signal loss, performing spectrum and phase adjustment in a single device. The modular, scalable architecture allows the antenna aperture to be tailored to customer-specific requirements, from small-vehicle installations to large-aperture aircraft or maritime systems.
The technology targets LEO satellite broadband services delivering 5G/LTE-level connectivity to maritime vessels, commercial aircraft, passenger trains, and ground vehicles — sectors where legacy dish antennas are impractical due to size, weight, and aerodynamic constraints.
