Bureau 1440

Bureau 1440 is a Russian commercial space company founded in 2020 and headquartered in Moscow. It is developing Russia's first large-scale commercial low Earth orbit (LEO) broadband satellite constellation — the first project of its kind in Russia at commercial scale.

The company is building a constellation of LEO satellites at approximately 800 km altitude, designed to deliver broadband internet with speeds up to 1 Gbps and latency under 70 ms. Laser communication terminals (optical inter-satellite links) connect the satellites, enabling global coverage without ground relay limitations. As of 2025, five operational satellites are in orbit with 16 planned by early 2026.

Bureau 1440's satellite internet service targets industries with limited connectivity options: mining, agriculture, aviation, maritime, railways, and remote healthcare and education. The company employs approximately 3,500 staff, over 80% of whom are engineers and developers — making it one of Russia's largest technical aerospace workforces.

The company represents Russia's strategic push to develop indigenous broadband satellite infrastructure independent of foreign systems, positioning Bureau 1440 as the Russian counterpart to global constellation operators.
