Maana Electric is a Luxembourg-based energy technology company founded in 2018 that develops clean energy infrastructure for both terrestrial and space applications. The company's core mission is to support humanity's transition to net-zero energy while building the technologies required for sustained space exploration and a multiplanetary future. Its team, grown from a handful of founders to more than 35 people, spans backgrounds in electrical engineering, thermal systems, and space systems.
On Earth, Maana Electric is best known for TerraBox, a deployable mini-factory that automates local production of frameless, glass-on-glass bifacial solar panels, and for its Green Silicon and Green Cells process technologies, which replace carbon-intensive and chemically hazardous steps in conventional solar manufacturing with lower-emission electrochemical and physical vapor deposition methods. These terrestrial technologies were developed in parallel with in-situ resource utilization (ISRU) work originally aimed at space applications, reflecting the company's dual-use development strategy of maturing low-TRL technologies rapidly by finding both Earth and space markets for them.
In space, Maana Electric works on technologies such as SOURCE, a molten salt electrolysis system that extracts silicon and oxygen directly from planetary regolith for in-situ production of power generation and structural materials, and ACME, a thermal management system that uses combustion of regolith-derived metal reactants to keep lunar payloads operational through the extreme cold of the lunar night. The company also produces lunar regolith simulants (mare and highland types) used by researchers and industry to test ISRU hardware and processes on Earth.
Maana Electric has received recognition including the EU Commission Horizon 2020 Seal of Excellence, the Solar Impulse Foundation Label, an ESA Rising Star designation, and inclusion in the PwC Net Zero Future50 Middle East report, and has been supported through ESA and Luxembourg Space Agency programs.
