About

The LRS Lunar Highland Simulant (LRS-H) is a standard lunar regolith simulant developed by Maana Electric based on Apollo average highland samples, representing material from some of the Moon’s oldest terrain. The simulant is anorthosite-rich, comprising about 80% anorthosite and 20% glass-rich basalt, with a mean particle size of 75 microns (ranging from under 10 to 1,400 microns). Major oxide constituents include approximately 47.67 wt% silica, 28.28 wt% alumina, and 14.44 wt% calcium oxide, with smaller amounts of iron oxide, magnesium oxide, and trace elements such as chromium and strontium. Because highland regolith is expected to play a key role in future robotic and human lunar exploration, LRS-H supports research teams in testing equipment and processing methodologies relevant to highland landing and operation sites.
