The Lunar Highland Simulant (LRS-H) is a basic/standard simulant developed to mimic the regolith of the Moon’s highlands, which are among the oldest regions on the lunar surface. These highlands are predominantly composed of anorthositic material, making them rich in elements such as Aluminum (Al) and Silicon (Si). Highlands are distributed across the entire Moon, including its polar regions, highlighting the importance of highland regolith for future robotic and human lunar exploration efforts. The simulant’s specifications include a mean particle size of 75 µm and a particle size range from less than 10 µm to 1400 µm. Its chemical composition, including major oxides like SiO2, Al2O3, FeO, and CaO, closely references Apollo average highland samples. The mineralogy is dominated by Anorthosite (80 wt%) and Glass-rich Basalt (20 wt%), with a detailed breakdown of minerals such as Anorthite albite, Pyroxene, Olivine, and Alkali feldspar.
