Description
Lunar Radios are a pair of electronic interface modules developed by Mission Control that enable bidirectional wireless, line-of-sight communication between two surface nodes, such as a lunar lander and a rover. They support Hold Down Release Mechanism (HDRM) control for rover deployment, a wired interface for pre-deployment rover connectivity, and onboard edge computing for AI and data processing to enhance rover missions. The hardware is built on the Xiphos Q7S baseline and is customizable for mission-specific needs, and has been TVAC (thermal vacuum) and vibration tested for flight readiness. Lunar Radios were successfully deployed to support mission-critical communications on a commercial lunar rover operation, and are paired with Mission Control's web-based Spacefarer mission control software for ground operations teams.
