Gonets-M LEO Data Relay Satellite
Store-and-forward LEO communications satellite for messaging and data relay to remote regions from 1500 km near-polar orbit.
Description
Gonets-M is a small store-and-forward communications satellite by VNIIEM for the Gonets-D1M constellation. Operating from near-polar orbit at approximately 1500 km altitude, it provides data relay, short messaging, and telemetry collection for remote Arctic, Siberian, and Far Eastern regions. Each satellite weighs approximately 280 kg and provides L-band services. Coverage updates arrive at 1 to 2 hour intervals per ground location. Satellites are launched in groups of three aboard Rokot vehicles from Plesetsk. Applications include emergency communications, industrial telemetry for pipelines and weather stations, maritime tracking, and environmental data collection.
