About

Kanopus-V-IK is a variant of the Kanopus-V bus adding a mid-wave infrared imager. Operating from 400 km SSO, it is optimised for global wildfire monitoring and thermal anomaly detection. The MWIR channel detects thermal sources above approximately 600 K, supporting near-real-time forest fire alerts. The infrared imager provides a wide 2000 km swath enabling rapid global revisit. Launched in July 2017, it operates in coordination with other Kanopus-V satellites in Russia national Earth observation constellation.
