ROSA Roll-Out Solar Array
Patented lightweight elastically deployable roll-out solar array for satellites and space stations.
About
The Roll-Out Solar Array (ROSA) is DSS patented and award-winning solar array technology. It is a highly modular elastically deployable tensioned blanket that deploys immediately in a known linear direction under its own strain energy, with no motors or complex mechanisms required. Innovative stiff tubular boom structures provide integrated mechanism and deployment kinematic features. An Integrated Modular Blanket Assembly (IMBA) uses common mass-produced photovoltaic modules for highly manufacturable assembly. ROSA provides lighter weight, more compact stowage, higher reliability, better scalability, lower parts count, higher performance, and significantly lower cost than conventional solar arrays. ROSA has been deployed on the International Space Station, the NASA DART mission, and is planned for the Lunar Gateway.
