About

Inovor’s 6U small satellite platform is the compact end of its vertically-integrated bus family, purpose-built for rapid-turnaround, cost-effective missions in low Earth orbit. It shares the same in-house-developed core subsystems as Inovor’s larger buses — Apogee star tracker, modular ADCS, and scalable EPS — scaled down to fit the 6U form factor while retaining high-precision pointing and a low-noise electromagnetic environment suited to sensitive payloads.

This platform has underpinned several of Australia’s first sovereign satellite missions. It carried the Buccaneer Main Mission payload for Australia’s Defence Science and Technology Group (in orbit since March 2025), formed the basis of Kanyini (SASat), South Australia’s first satellite (in orbit since August 2024), and hosted SpIRIT, a 6U science satellite for the University of Melbourne (in orbit since December 2023). Each mission validated the platform’s reliability for both defence and scientific payloads under real operational conditions.

The 6U bus is designed for fast integration cycles, enabling customers to move from contract to launch faster than with larger custom-built spacecraft, while still offering precision pointing, autonomous onboard decision-making, and robust power and thermal management. It is intended for customers needing a proven, lower-cost entry point into orbit — for imaging, technology demonstration, or defence experimentation — without sacrificing the reliability of Inovor’s vertically integrated manufacturing approach.

As Inovor scales toward larger ESPA-class missions like SWIFT OPTUS-1 and MARSAT, the 6U platform remains its most flight-proven and lowest-risk offering, serving as a stepping stone for constellation operators and government agencies seeking sovereign small-satellite capability.
