About

Kreios Space’s propulsion system enables long-duration satellite missions in Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO), an orbital regime traditionally considered unworkable due to high atmospheric drag. By operating closer to Earth, satellites using this system benefit from improved performance (e.g. for Earth Observation), lower radiation exposure, and reduced launch costs compared to higher orbits. The propulsion system is described as proprietary and runs only on ambient air and solar power, eliminating the need for onboard propellant/fuel tanks. According to Kreios Space, it is the only thruster capable of sustaining continuous operations for years in VLEO. A further stated benefit is that satellites in VLEO naturally re-enter and burn up at end of life, which helps prevent orbital debris accumulation and avoids adding congestion to more crowded higher altitudes. The company positions sustained VLEO satellite operation as enabling new applications across Earth Observation, Security, and Telecommunications industries.
