The Emirates Airlock is a crucial component of the Gateway lunar space station, a collaborative international and commercial project designed to orbit the Moon. This module, developed and operated by the UAE, will serve as the primary access point between the Gateway’s pressurized cabin and the vacuum of space. Its functions include enabling astronauts to perform spacewalks, facilitating the transfer of research materials and crew to and from the station, and providing an additional docking port for visiting spacecraft. The development of the Emirates Airlock establishes the UAE as a key partner in future space missions, contributing significantly to lunar exploration and fostering knowledge sharing. The project involves several phases: a Planning Stage to establish management and operational protocols, a Design Phase for detailed assembly designs, a Qualification phase for testing reliability and safety, Flight Preparation for launching components to Gateway, and an Operations Stage where MBRSC will manage and operate the airlock as part of the station. This involvement grants the UAE priority access to advanced scientific and engineering data from the station and positions it to send an astronaut to the Moon.
