About
Optus D3 is an Australian geostationary communications satellite operated by Optus, providing broadcast and broadband communications services across Australasia. The third of the Optus-D series, it was built by Orbital Sciences Corporation on the Star-2.4 satellite bus and launched on 21 August 2009 aboard an Ariane 5ECA rocket from the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou, French Guiana, alongside the Japanese JCSAT-12 satellite. Optus D3 carries thirty-two Ku-band (J-band) transponders and has a design life of fifteen years.
