About

The Pyxis Space Sun Sensor is an ultra-compact, lightweight attitude sensor that provides coarse Sun direction measurement for CubeSat and nanosatellite platforms. At just 7 × 18 × 24 mm³ and 12 g, it is among the smallest space-grade sun sensors available and can be mounted on satellite body panels or structures with minimal volume penalty. It delivers a wide 92° × 92° field of view, enabling reliable Sun detection through most operational orientations, with calibrated accuracy better than 0.2°. The sensor outputs Sun angle data through standard CAN 2.0B or I2C interfaces, and also supports UART, allowing direct integration with most on-board computers and ADCS microcontrollers. In a typical CubeSat ADCS, multiple Pyxis Sun Sensors are mounted on different faces to provide full-sphere Sun coverage during detumbling and coarse attitude determination phases, prior to handoff to the star sensor for fine pointing. Priced at €2,500, it is the most affordable entry point in the Pyxis Space ADCS product line.
