About
Rovial Space’s AI-enabled robotic servicing system is a family of intelligent robotic platforms designed for autonomous operation in the orbital environment. These robots are capable of assembling large structures such as antenna reflectors and deployable solar array panels, performing in-space inspection and maintenance of existing satellites, repairing damage caused by micrometeorites, and conducting payload servicing and hardware manipulation tasks.
The system uses adaptive AI that allows the robots to handle scenarios that cannot be fully pre-programmed — a requirement for in-orbit repair operations where the condition and damage state of target hardware is unknown in advance. The robots support Space Situational Awareness (SSA) as a secondary function, and are designed for extended operational periods in the harsh thermal and radiation environment of orbit.
Integrated with the Rovial Breakthrough™ platform, the robotic systems handle the assembly and maintenance of large deployable solar structures, enabling the sustained 15-year operational lifespan. The technology draws on Rovial’s partnerships with leading robotics research institutions including CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research), LIRMM, and Prisma Lab. Rovial CTO Dr. Amit Kumar Pandey previously served as Chief Scientist at Softbank Robotics Europe and CTO at Hanson Robotics, and served as principal investigator on multiple large-scale European robotics R&D programs.
