Sheldahl’s printed electronics capability ranges from simple printed switches to complex, functional, multi-pass prints with integrated printed components, engineered to meet the most demanding custom design requirements. The printed electronics platform enables the creation of flexible circuits that easily conform to a wide variety of shapes and spaces, offering a level of customization that traditional rigid manufacturing methods cannot match, allowing the creation of complex circuits for applications previously considered too difficult to manufacture cost-effectively. Materials used include silver, carbon/graphite, Ag/AgCl, and PTC (positive temperature coefficient) inks and pastes; PEDOT and dielectric formulations; graphic and nano-silver inks; pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA); and force-sensing resistor (FSR) materials, applied onto PET, polyimide (PI), TPU/stretchable substrates, and coated fabrics. Circuit fabrication is performed via roll-to-roll manufacturing supporting single-sided, double-sided, and multi-layer printing, screen-thru-vias, copper foil/printed silver flexible hybrid circuits, printed resistors and piezo resistors, and copper over-plate. Finishing and assembly options include shielding film application, electrical testing, circuit blanking, and stiffener/foam integration, giving customers a complete path from concept to finished printed electronic assembly, including wearable sensors, foot-pressure sensors, and human-machine interface controls.
