About
SKAIPACK is a comprehensive suite of high-performance image compression implementations designed specifically for space-based multi- and hyperspectral imaging. The CCSDS-123.0-B-2 implementation delivers lossless and near-lossless compression with compression ratios of 2:1 to 4:1, implemented as an FPGA IP core with AXI4-Stream interfaces operating up to 200 MHz using only 3.5 % LUTs and 1 % flip-flops on UltraScale+ ZU7EG. The JPEG2000 implementation supports both lossless (up to 2.5:1) and lossy (up to 70:1) modes with progressive transmission, region-of-interest encoding, and AI/ML-based cloud screening integration via SKAISEN. CPU-side delivery is available as an optimized binary or Python package for ARM and x86-64 architectures, with processing rates of 2–60 MSamples/s. SKAIPACK is natively optimized for seamless integration with the SKAIDOCK platform.
