About

Perun is SpaceForest’s orbital launch vehicle project, which would make SpaceForest and Poland a player in Europe’s small launch market. Named after the Slavic god of thunder, Perun builds on SpaceForest’s hybrid rocket propulsion expertise developed through the SRT (Suborbital Rapid Transport) sounding rocket program and the Bursztyn (amber) hybrid engine series.

SpaceForest is a unique entity in European new-space — it operates as a private company from Gdynia, Poland, founded in 2013, and has independently developed hybrid rocket propulsion without major government grants. The SRT-2 sounding rocket achieved over 100 km altitude in tests, validating the Bursztyn engine’s performance. Perun represents the scale-up to orbital capability, targeting 50–100 kg to LEO.

The vehicle uses SpaceForest’s hybrid propulsion (liquid oxidizer / solid fuel), which the company believes offers better safety and storability than liquid bipropellants while exceeding solid propellant performance. Perun would launch from a European spaceport (SaxaVord or Andøya are candidates) targeting polar and SSO missions for European smallsat operators wanting European launch sovereignty.
