About
On 26 November 2022, Dhruva Space launched and successfully deployed the Thybolt Mission aboard ISRO PSLV-C54. The mission’s primary goal was to validate its Polaris Demonstrator of Technologies (P-DoT) Satellite Platform. Additionally, it aimed to enable amateur radio enthusiasts to operate, test, and learn during the company’s first satellite mission, fostering knowledge in Space and scientific development. The Thybolt Mission utilized Dhruva Space’s P-DoT platform for technology demonstrations, advancing research, constellation development, and application agnostics. Dhruva Space leveraged indigenously developed technologies across its Space, Launch, and Ground Segments to ensure the mission’s success. As of June 2024, both Thybolt-1 and Thybolt-2 have concluded their endeavors after a combined 15,000 orbits and have deorbited successfully and securely. The Thybolt-1 and Thybolt-2 CubeSats are built on the P-DoT system, a 0.5U Spacecraft bus designed and developed by Dhruva Space. This platform includes a communication payload for rapid technology demonstration and constellation development for multiple users, also demonstrating Store-and-Forward functionality for authorized users in the amateur frequency band. The compact and scalable P-DoT platform features a powerful processor and Space-grade components, ensuring high agility and robust operations. Thybolt satellites employed a novel Store-and-Forward payload to receive messages from sensor nodes or remote Ground Stations, storing them on-board for downlinking at a network-connected ground station.
