About
The Transformable Reflectors Weightless System is a ground-based test facility designed to simulate weightlessness conditions for large-sized spacecraft elements, including transformable reflectors, during pre-launch verification. It works as an automated suspension system with 36 individual weightless (offloading) suspension points that support and track the movement of test articles as they deploy or move, compensating for gravity so that deployment dynamics can be validated as they would occur in orbit. Each suspension point can travel up to 12 m in any direction at a movement speed of 1 m/min, with each suspension unit rated for weights up to 10 kg. The system includes force sensors to monitor loads during testing. It was released in 2016, has a guaranteed service life of 10 years, an estimated production/delivery time of 12 months, and can be adapted to customer requirements.
