WORLD SEEDS is a collection of 11 unique payloads developed by Jaguar Space, each containing seeds selected by emerging space nations to represent their agricultural heritage and botanical diversity. The payload launched to the International Space Station aboard NASA’s Crew-11 mission on July 31, 2025, as part of ISS Expedition 73, and returned via NASA’s Crew-10.
The scientific investigation examines seed responses to microgravity, focusing on gene activation and metabolic processes during germination. Key research goals include assessing plant suitability for space exploration, identifying novel molecular pathways, and advancing seed preservation techniques. Results are expected to contribute to UN Sustainable Development Goals through enhanced crop resilience.
Participating nations and their seeds include: Argentina (peanut), Brazil/Florida (orchid varieties, perennial grass, strawberry), Costa Rica (sweet pepper, tomato), India (sea buckthorn, Himalayan tartary buckwheat), Maldives (mangrove), Guatemala (maize varieties), Nigeria (okra, cowpea, sorghum, groundnut, amaranth, maize), Armenia (pomegranate), Egypt (Egyptian cotton), Pakistan (wheat), and Colorado/USA (blue spruce). The mission honors global cultural heritage while advancing the scientific foundations needed for long-duration space agriculture.
