About Hokkaido Spaceport (SPACE COTAN)

Hokkaido Spaceport (HOSPO), operated by SPACE COTAN Co., Ltd., is Japan's first and Asia's leading commercial spaceport, located in Taiki Town, Hokkaido. Founded in April 2021, SPACE COTAN designs, constructs, manages, and operates world-class spaceport facilities to serve businesses, universities, government agencies, and organizations from Japan and around the world. The spaceport's geographic position at 42.30°N latitude, 143.26°E longitude — with open sea to the east and south — enables access to orbital inclinations from 42° to 98°, including sun-synchronous orbits critical for Earth observation satellites.

HOSPO hosts a growing campus of launch complexes and testing facilities. Launch Complex 0 (LC0) serves suborbital sounding rockets and has supported dozens of MOMO rocket launches by Interstellar Technologies since 2017, three of which reached space. Launch Complex 1 (LC1) is being developed for small orbital rockets with two launch pads (LP11 and LP12), assembly buildings, and propellant infrastructure. Launch Complex 2 (LC2) is planned as a multi-pad orbital launch site supporting frequent commercial and government launches. An Engine Firing Test Facility within LC0 provides a dedicated site for propulsion development and validation.

Beyond launch services, HOSPO offers a 1,300-meter paved runway with two hangars for horizontal launch vehicles, UAV/drone testing, eVTOL aircraft trials, and small aircraft operations. The spaceport supplies a full range of propellants and gases including LNG (CH4), liquid oxygen (LOX), gaseous helium (GHe), liquid nitrogen (LN2), gaseous nitrogen (GN2), gaseous oxygen (GOX), water, and electrical power. Comprehensive launch support services include regulatory consulting on space activity laws and import/export compliance, meteorological forecasting, ground condition monitoring, upper atmospheric analysis, and sea/air route information.

Driven by the vision of creating an 'Aerospace Silicon Valley in Hokkaido,' SPACE COTAN has built a supporter network of over 300 companies spanning aerospace, manufacturing, IT, energy, construction, finance, and media. The spaceport is also home to the Taiki Space Community Center SORA, a public exhibition facility showcasing four decades of space development history in Taiki Town, open April through November.
