About
Hokkaido Spaceport’s runway is a 1,300 × 30-meter asphalt-paved airstrip oriented at 82°14’42” / 262°14’42”, designed to support a wide range of aerospace and aviation activities. The runway is built to Design Classification LA-4 with 3,000 design repetitions and a subgrade CBR of 7%, with 45-meter green buffer zones on each side. Over 1,000 additional meters of land are available for expansion.
The facility includes two fully equipped hangars for aircraft and vehicle storage. The First Hangar offers 12 × 15 × 7.9 m storage with a 13.2 × 3.7 m door opening, an 8 × 5 m office with whiteboard, monitor, and furniture, available at ¥4,000/day. The Second Hangar offers 13 × 12.5 × 8 m storage with an 11.5 × 4.5 m door opening, an 8 × 4 m office, a 1-ton overhead crane, restroom, and kitchen, available at ¥11,000/day. Both hangars are powered by 50 Hz, 100V electrical supply.
Permitted operations include unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and drone testing, eVTOL aircraft demonstration flights, small rocket launch experiments, small aircraft takeoffs and landings, and special aviation events. The spaceport has hosted tests by prominent clients including Kawasaki Heavy Industries, JAXA, SkyDrive Inc., NTT Advanced Technology, Navicom Aviation, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. In March 2024, the runway hosted JAXA/ISAS Professor Yasuhiro Morita’s LTP-135s suborbital test launch.
