About Quasar Satellite Technologies

Quasar Satellite Technologies (QSAT) was founded in 2021 in Marsfield, New South Wales, Australia, as a spinout built on phased array antenna technology developed at CSIRO, Australia's national science agency. The company's mission is to dramatically reduce the cost of satellite communications by replacing fields of conventional parabolic dish antennas with a single compact, electronically-scanned multibeam phased array — about the size of a coffee table — capable of communicating with hundreds of satellites simultaneously.

QSAT's core innovation is a cryogenically cooled, pure-digital, true multibeam phased array that can form over 100 independent steerable beams simultaneously. Unlike conventional phased arrays that typically support two to three beams and are coupled to specific satellite constellations, Quasar's system is satellite-agnostic and can scan the entire sky instantaneously in any frequency band. This makes it uniquely suited to serve the growing number of LEO satellite constellations launched by operators around the world.

The company released its first commercial product — an S-band phased array antenna — in mid-2023, followed by a demonstration of its X-band multibeam array in late 2024. In December 2023, Quasar launched 'Sense', the world's first all-of-sky radio frequency emitter interrogator for space domain awareness, enabling defense and intelligence agencies to simultaneously track, characterize, and geolocate RF emissions from over 30 satellites of interest in real time. Sense is available exclusively to Five Eyes and Quad nations.

Quasar has secured $5.3 million through Australia's Defence Innovation Hub and raised $6 million in commercial funding. The company is building a network of ground stations across Australia, with the first site breaking ground in regional Victoria. Its ground station software suite provides satellite operators with automated pass booking, data downlink scheduling, and integration with cloud infrastructure via Microsoft Azure.
