About
Quasar’s X-band multibeam phased array ground station is the company’s second antenna product, demonstrated ahead of schedule in late 2023 and planned for production readiness in 2025. Like the S-band system, it uses Quasar’s patented true multibeam digital phased array architecture derived from CSIRO technology, supporting multiple simultaneous satellite contacts without mechanical steering.
The X-band system is designed as a modular, tiled architecture: individual X-band tiles can be combined to form larger arrays for applications requiring higher gain or broader coverage. Each tile supports two or more independent beams, allowing the system to scale from compact portable terminals to large fixed installations. The low size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C) design makes it suitable for rapid deployment in remote or forward-operating locations.
The X-band product targets both commercial satellite operators with X-band downlinks and the defence/intelligence community, where X-band is commonly used for high-bandwidth imaging satellite data downlink. Its dual-use nature — supporting both civil SATCOM and military space domain awareness — has attracted interest from Australia’s Defence Innovation Hub and under AUKUS Pillar 2 technology cooperation.
