About Space Products and Innovation (SPiN)

Space Products and Innovation (SPiN) was founded in 2015 with the goal of simplifying satellite manufacturing through modularity. The company's core innovation, MA61C (Multipurpose Adapter Generic Interface Connector), is a plug-and-play intelligent data node built around a GR712RC dual-core LEON3-FT SPARC V8 processor that automatically adapts between the communication interfaces and protocol standards of different subsystem suppliers and the onboard computer, eliminating manual configuration and driver installation.

SPiN offers MA61C in several configurations - CubeSat, SmallSat, and cPCI-Serial-Space variants - alongside an Electronic Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) tool for bench-testing satellite subsystems, and a modular system-engineering service to help manufacturers design satellites using a plug-and-play, model-based approach. SPiN is among the first companies to offer a commercial cPCI-Serial-Space product, selected by ESA and the European Commission as a candidate backplane standard for upcoming Copernicus missions.

The company has flown its technology in orbit: MA61C achieved flight heritage on the SPiN-1 CubeSat mission (launched May 2022 on SpaceX Transporter-5) and on the PHOENIX-1 re-entry capsule developed with Atmos Space Cargo. SPiN is also developing a modular, closed-loop ADCS for small satellites in partnership with ESA and GMV.

Headquartered in Italy, SPiN has been supported by the ESA Business Incubation Centre (BIC) Bavaria, Techstars Allied Space Accelerator, Hyperspace Challenge, Fit4Start, and Cassini Business Accelerator, and received seed funding led by Galaxia (the Italian Technology Transfer Hub on Aerospace, powered by CDP Venture Capital) with participation from Obloo Ventures, Scientifica Venture Capital, and Innova Venture. The company was named one of ESA's twenty 'Rising Stars' companies of 2024 at IAC Milan.
