EBAD NEA® Model 2545 Pin Puller

The NEA® Model 2545 Pin Puller is a non-pyrotechnical mechanism that employs EBAD’s patented split-spool and bridge wire technology, similar to their Hold Down & Release Mechanisms. It provides pull forces ranging from 25 lbf (111 N) to 45 lbf (200 N). The mechanism consists of a spring-loaded plunger restrained by a spool subassembly with […]

About

The NEA® Model 2545 Pin Puller is a non-pyrotechnical mechanism that employs EBAD’s patented split-spool and bridge wire technology, similar to their Hold Down & Release Mechanisms. It provides pull forces ranging from 25 lbf (111 N) to 45 lbf (200 N). The mechanism consists of a spring-loaded plunger restrained by a spool subassembly with two halves held together by a tight winding of a restraining wire. This wire terminates in a bridge wire connecting two electrical terminals. When sufficient electrical current passes through the terminals and bridge wire, the bridge wire heats up and breaks under tension, allowing the restraining wire to unwind, separating the spool halves, and releasing the spring-preloaded plunger. This actuation method is simple, reliable, and forms the basis for other EBAD products. Key features include extremely low release shock, redundant or non-redundant actuation circuit options, compatibility with pyrotechnic initiation circuitry, range safety friendliness, and the use of space-rated materials. The device is also factory refurbishable. Typical applications include antennas, scientific instruments, solar arrays, reflectors, satellite and spacecraft payloads, booms and masts, stage separation, and caging mechanisms.
