The EBAD NEA1120-05 Pin Puller is a non-pyrotechnic Hold Down & Release Mechanism (HDRM) designed for the spacecraft market. It employs EBAD’s patented split spool technology, which is also used in their HDRMs. The device operates with a spring-loaded plunger restrained by a split-spool and fuse wire assembly. The spool subassembly consists of two halves held together by a tight winding of a restraining wire. This restraining wire terminates in a fuse wire connected to two electrical terminals. The spool assembly prevents axial motion of the plunger. When sufficient electrical current is passed through the fuse wire, it melts, releasing the spool halves and allowing the plunger to retract. The pin puller is fully vented and vacuum compatible. It features a re-usable design with manual replacement of the fuse wire. Housing finish options include hard black anodize (MIL-A-8625, Type III, Class 2 with Teflon impregnation MIL-A-63576, Type 1) or gold chem film (MIL-DTL-5541, Class 1A).
