About
The EBAD TiNi™ Microlatch is a reliable, fast-operating device developed for the ‘New Space’ small satellite market. It uses a shape memory alloy (SMA) wire to release a latch, allowing external ball locks to disengage and release a coupler. When power is applied, current heats the SMA wire, causing it to contract and disengage the latch, opening the circuit. The device is easily reset by aligning and pressing the coupler back on. It is non-pyrotechnic, easy to field reset without tooling, and offers maximum reliability through design simplicity. Qualified in 2018, it is suitable for small solar array release, optical cover release, CubeSat deployers, and other space applications requiring a small device. The coupler is manufactured from custom 455 SS with a tiolon finish, and kick-off springs are 17-7PH SS. It is fully vented.
